SHPE-ROC Student Chapter Support

Support comes mainly from professional members who we assign to each student chapter as liaisons. Liaisons maintain the communications between student chapters and the professional chapter, and they also assist students in discovering resources to further the activities of the student chapters. Liaisons are also expected to travel to the campus of their student chapter to develop a strong relationship and visibility. Finally, liaisons provide an easy link for student chapters to seek monetary and in-kind support from companies (frequently the employer of the professional liaison). In addition, SHPE-ROC provides several hundred dollars in funding to the student chapters that fall within its jurisdiction (all of New York State west of Utica, New York). SHPE-ROC also maintains the network between these student chapters, and encourages higher student chapter member attendance to key events like the Eastern Technical and Career Conference, the National Technical and Career Conference, and the Region 4 Student Leadership Conference. SHPE-ROC includes many students in making some of its programs happen (e.g., the quarterly newsletter and the Mentorship Program), and coordinates events to bring together the student chapters (the Student Forum).
