SHPE-ROC excels in promoting education and careers in engineering and science to Hispanic youth and assisting its members in their professional development. This organization also pulls its members together in a dynamic network that has gained visibility in the Rochester community.

Vision, Mission, and Goals Vision: SHPE-ROC is a professional organization, which advocates for the Rochester Hispanic community and contributes admirably to enhance its welfare through the promotion of education in engineering, science and math.

Mission: SHPE-ROC endeavors to assist its members in their professional development and to promote the education of Hispanic youth, particularly in fields related to engineering, science and math.

Goals: We derive our goals from the mission. Our goals are described below:

Educational Opportunities: Promote educational opportunities for Hispanic youth, especially in engineering, science, and mathematics; assist upstate NY student chapters and their members in meeting their goals. (E.g., mentoring, MESH, liaisons, etc.).

Professional Growth and Development: Provide tools and opportunities for members to develop both professionally and personally. (e.g. seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.).
 
Community Responsibility: Encourage membership involvement in the Rochester community; increase awareness of Hispanic issues. (e.g., IBERO, Latinas Unidas, PRYD, etc.). Develop strategic partnerships with organizations in the Rochester community (American Red Cross, Rochester City School District, SWE, United Way, RHBA, etc.)

Pride and Reputation: Enhance pride and excellence within SHPE-ROC through motivation, support, and recognition of our members; promote SHPE-ROC in Rochester and beyond. (e.g., awards banquet, picnic, newsletter, membership drive, Holiday dinner, etc.).
 
Strategic Planning: Develop the organization for long-term sustenance; assess strategies that will enable SHPE-ROC to focus on its goals and take advantage of opportunities for growth. (e.g., Advisory Council, lessons learned, survey, etc.).  

Membership

We have approximately 20 members, mostly professionals in engineering and technology-related fields.

Our electronic distribution reaches more than 120 Hispanics throughout Rochester.
